Day 1 – Overview
Provide an overview of the global pesticide regulatory landscape including WHOPES, the global joint review
process and work-sharing that exists among regulatory authorities in developed countries (United States, Canada,
Australia, European Union, New Zealand) and which is extending to other countries (Japan, Brazil, China,
Taiwan). Consider the unique registration circumstances and procedures of disease endemic countries. Identify
the ‘obstacles’ to registration, discovery, and development of public health pesticide tools.
Day 2 – Regional Working Group Sessions
See Annex for questions
Objective: Discuss current regulatory situation for public health pesticides in order to identify the major
regulatory obstacles/issues in disease endemic countries that need to be addressed. Consider and outline an
actual process to overcome these challenges. Formulate a pilot project for work sharing/joint assessments. Map
out in as much detail as possible how such a pilot project could work in practice.
Participants will be divided into three groups based on region and language (English, French and Spanish). All
groups will discuss the same questions.
Day 3 – Presentation of Working Group Sessions, Conclusions and Recommendations
Presentations in plenary on the results of the working groups. Develop conclusions from the results and establish
consensus on the recommendations from the discussions.
